Shillong
I felt that Shillong was a typical crowded 'hill station' and I left as soon as possible - but one of the major tourist attractions - 'Elephant falls' was on my way - so I stopped to take a look. But I was distinctly underwhelmed by the place - seemed a typical tourist trap. Even the name 'Elephant falls' is outdated...the signboard made me laugh!
The 'Garden of Caves'

The 'Garden of caves' is a lovely place - a collection of waterfalls and caves and greenery - that was a wonderful place to walk around in.
This is supposed to be 'health giving water' - it tasted great! So I emptied my water bottle and filled it with this healthy water
Living root bridges
It's 3500 steps down to the root bridges...and that also means 3500 steps up as well! It's like climbing up and down the Empire State building!
Before we reach the living root bridge, we have to cross a spidery non-living bridge! I looked rather nervously at it...but it took my weight without actually snapping! woohoo!
A sacred grove!
Finally we reach the double root bridge! WooHoo! What a lovely place! super scenic!
What a monument to far sightedness and patience. How long it must have taken for the bridge to be created.
Seriously...what a lovely place. I didn't want to leave!
It's a shame that such a board needs to be written
Seems to be a smooching spot!
There is also a single-root bridge. Which is equally adorable!
You appreciate the size of the bridge and the rocks when there is a human being for scale reference!
The shadow on the rocks
And we have done it! climbed up and down 3500 steps without a problem! My guide was both relieved and impressed!
