The Hornbill festival was a most impressive sight! The Nagaland government has created a permanent structure of the Naga heritage village - but also encourages a lot of extra stalls as well. An interesting example was this metalworker stall, which also made guns!
The Naga heritage village is a collection of 'Morungs' - recreations of village huts of all the various Naga tribes. They have cool carvings and stuff on their walls and cool stuff inside
The tribal volunteers dress up in their traditional finery and stand outside the morungs and happily pose for photos
This is a huge art installation - a tree with hornbills
The impressive opening ceremony was saluted by a flypast of fighter jets
The attendees sat patiently through all the speeches by the bigwigs
And then the most spectacular opening ceremony started!
Well - that was fun!
The next day was also a bunch of performances
Rice beer and pork! WOOHOO!
More rice beer - and pickled pork!
But be careful - the toilets may be locked!
Spectacular visuals in the dancing
Delzad finally makes it ! After a bunch of adventures!
And we settle down for rice beer and grub
Literally grubs - silkworm grubs!
Thats what i call sensible - get silk and a nourishing snack at the same time.
