Junagadh was also an awesome surprise! I never expected such an amazing range of historic forts and buildings.
The amazing Mahabat Maqbara - tomb of Nawab Mahabat Khan
A local staring curiously at two weird people
The amazing tomb Wazir Bahar ud din Bhar. What a building - ornate minarets with curving staircases. And kids are playing cricket in front of it!
Me and Delzad climbed up those narrow staircases to take in the overhead views of the maqbara
YES! I STILL FIT ON THIS NARROW STAIRCASE! AND IT HASN'T BROKEN!
(though it was a task to turn around, I must admit...)
(though it was a task to turn around, I must admit...)
Then we moved to the ancient Uparkot fort
Relics of a naval battle that laid the foundation of colonial rule in Asia - the Diu battle between the Portuguese and the local Asian combine.
The impressive battlements and structures inside the fort
The ornate gathering hall
No, it's not a Hindu priest...it's a firang tourist...
No...it's not a foul monster...it's only Delzad...
The holy Girnar mountain - sacred to three religions
Bawa at work - taking client calls!
A really deep step well - the Adi Kadi vav
The government has really scraped off all the trees and bushes off the walls - but the water is still a dirty cesspool. And tourists have thrown plastic bottles and trash into it. Hope they clean the water as well some day.
This stepwell is a geologists paradise...see the layers of the rocks exposed here
Workers scraping off the plant matter off the walls of the canyon
Imagine climbing down and up all these steps every day to get your water!
Get your photo taken...with a most lifelike tiger! Or an elephant. Or a super scenic background!
