All set! Saddlebags mounted, gear on and bike ready to roll! The ride begins now!
I had decided to avoid the standard tourist circuit and explore the Garo hills, and so I headed to the town of Tura. I had a great ride and found a hotel and checked in - and then went to check out the nearby Pelga falls - but Google Maps sent me on a road which ended at a dead end. Very scenic - but then you would have to cross a stream and climb up a hill into the jungle!
'BE A MAN!' the Google aunty screamed at me. 'FORD THE RIVER! CLIMB THE HILL! BRAVE THE JUNGLE! ARE YOU A RIDER OR A MOUSE?'
Apparently, I was a mouse. I backtracked to the main road and found the actual (and boring) road to Pelga falls and made my way there.
I looked rather doubtfully at these bamboo bridges..would they be strong enough to support the biggest trouser seat of the Amigos? But bamboo is an amazing thing - it took my weight with a light laugh and only a small creak - and I was able to cross over without a qualm.
Charming Pelga falls. Meghalaya is full of lovely waterfalls everywhere.
Night falls gently over Tura town. This had been a great first day of the ride.
