The incredible road to Dholavira! Straight black road cutting across a sea of white...incredible!
The incredible settlement of Dholavira!
Our first time in an archeological site... felt like I was in the book by Agatha Christie 'Come, tell me how you live.' See the bath in the foreground and the huge city in the distance.
This city was built 4000 years ago! The mind boggles! See bawa peering at the finely machined base...it would have required a huge lathe to do that
Our dashing moustachioed guide! He strode about the site like he owned it.
The world's oldest billboard! See the sign above...no, that's not the oldest billboard!
The blue thing below is the approximation of the billboard - with the strange symbols on it. The original characters are probably in the museum. No one has been able to decipher it yet...it might be some deep wisdom...or may just be a sign telling people to keep off the grass....

What awesome architecture and brickwork. It's incredible! Predates ancient Greece by almost a thousand years!
This was the market area...a main street lined with shops
It's very strange how the archeological dig seemed to have stopped abruptly - in mid-hoe, so to speak. See how half the platform has been carefully excavated, and the other half is still a hill.
There is zero dig work going on right now - I can't understand it. I would have thought all the universities of the country - and indeed, the world - would be hard at work here.
ASI - where art thou?

The magical sight of the rann as we go to see the petrified forest
It was simply amazing...the photo doesn't do it justice.
Another half-hearted attempt from the Gujarat government and ASI. Some random signs with no useful information
what a shady hand-painted sign.
Millions of years old trees. Think what riches must be lying under the seas
The saline water leaves behind a shimmering layer of white salt as it dries
A mesmerising sight. Not us...the salt
It was a great decision to come here.
