The original inhabitants of the Bombay islands were the 'koli's - which is fishermen, and the 'agri's - which means saltmakers. The salt pans are still alive and people still make salt the traditional way - allowing sea water to enter the salt pans, and then trapping it and allowing the sun to dry off the water and leave the salt behind.
